3rd Workshop of Food Waste Recovery & Bioeconomy
Tuesday 4 July 2023 at 09:00 - 17:00
The Special Interest Group “Food Waste Recovery” of the ISEKI-Food Association, chaired by Dr. Charis M. Galanakis, organizes this workshop as a pre-conference event to the 7th ISEKI-Food Conference in Paris, dedicated to the recovery of high added-value compounds as well as to synergies with food industries via our open innovation network.
Who we are
The Food Waste Recovery Group was founded in 2013 by ISEKI-Food Association and has been developed into the most prominent open innovation network worldwide in food waste recovery. The group aims to help food industries and other partners in the food chain recover valuable compounds from food waste, valorize their streams, and improve their sustainability. The network counts thousands of researchers and associated professionals from more than 60 countries. At the same time, its implementation team includes insightful and creative experts with many years of experience in food waste recovery and sustainability issues. The group shares its commitment, energy, and ambition to accelerate a meaningful difference in the food industry. Therefore, continuous training is our responsibility and our expertise targeting to update our knowledge in recovery methodologies and implement them in compliance with international standards and local needs.
Our Portfolio
We have developed numerous activities, including a series of workshops, webinars, multiple (>50) edited books, courses, a reference module, two open-access journals in Springer-Nature (Discover Food and Discover Environment), papers, and consultation works.
Objectives of the Workshop
All food companies have problems valorizing their waste and by-products. Solutions are often outside their expertise and need third party advice. Food Waste Recovery Group aims to support food industries and organizations to innovate and develop food waste recovery and sustainability projects. The objective of this workshop is to provide up-to-date knowledge and critical information in the field by:
- Exchanging methodologies, ideas, and experiences of food waste recovery efforts within the bioeconomy context
- Presenting recent advances on food processing by-products
- Exploring emerging non-thermal technologies for the recovery of compounds and the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals
- Presenting relevant processes and investigating applications of recovered compounds in the food industry
- Discussing examples, innovation barriers, ways out and success stories
- Highlighting sustainable solutions
